But don't worry, there's still time! In fact, you have until PM on Sunday. That's the absolute latest time you can start watching BSG to stream the entire show. Assuming you don't sleep or take any breaks.
Why take up the task? Ronald D. Moore's Battlestar Galactica , a reboot of the show, began as a two-part miniseries on SyFy then: Sci Fi Channel before its four-season run through It's best to go in knowing as little as possible, but if you need convincing, here's a list of awards it has won , including two Peabody Awards.
With some exceptions, every episode is just under 44 minutes. I know what you're thinking. It's unhealthy to forego sleep for two-and-a-half days. Google tells me via Scientific American that, anecdotally, unmedicated patients with mania and soldiers in battle can go without sleep for three to four days.
So you might be fine. So I think you know what to do. Subscribe to get the best Verge-approved tech deals of the week. It is all quite nice but it feels generic. Especially now the headsets have been removed and the ride is back to basically being Air but with some random mentions of space.
We grew to accept the concept of Air and now that the novelty of VR has ran its course and been removed, Galactica feels a little lacking in the theme department. When VR began, an in-queue picture was introduced which was quite a fun way of breaking up the queue time, sticking your head into a space suit, but it also slowed things down and could add a significant amount of time onto your wait. When the VR was in operation, the queues were dire.
The undeniable truth of VR is that it inevitably adds a lot of time to everything. They were fiddly, temperamental and not ideal for anyone with sight issues who had to sort the focus before riding. The VR was a fun addition to the ride once it was actually sorted though.
The synchronisation was spot on every time I rode it. The journey was brief but it was something different and something that I found really enjoyable. The soundtrack followed the dramatic twists and turns of not only the roller coaster but the VR video as well. Though I was happy that operations would improve, I was gutted to hear the VR was being removed and though Galactica is still a great ride, I do miss that special something.
This is something a bit different and lying chest down on a ride is a really interesting feeling especially when going through those inversions. Once you set off, you move through a little building, something that would benefit from a little added theming now the VR has gone, and up the first lift hill.
As you go down the first drop, you then rise up through the portal which actually looks really cool. I know many people feel there is nothing dramatic about the ride and it is too tame. The roller coaster is a pleasure to ride. It is the smoothest ride at Alton Towers even now 17 years after it was built.
It is almost delicate in the way it takes you around the track and I applaud those involved in the design and construction of this ride for creating something that is unique amongst the other coasters in the park or even in the UK. It is hard to rate Galactica. I have a lot of feelings about the ride. My love and respect for Air meets my intrigue and enjoyment of the VR meets my frustration about operations. It is a complicated relationship. Though Air was more of a concept than a theme, a VR-less Galactica feels lacking, promising more than what it now delivers.
Without the VR, Galactica is just another space ride and not even a well-themed one at that. The ride hardware, at the end of the day, is exactly the same and has stood the test of time, still a hugely popular and well respected roller coaster.
I do like the Galactica theme. Space is cool. Embark on an exhilarating expedition to another dimension!
