Should i upgrade fedora




















Happy Diwali to everyone. I am from India and am in teaching industry. I was waiting for Diwali break to upgrade from Fedora 33 to Next day of Diwali I noticed that Fedora 35 was released.

Started with that. Everything installed smoothly. I installed Fedora 35 on a brand new hard disk and it worked so well at first. However, I started experiencing freezing issues when I began bringing my backed-up files into it. RAM shows available. I tried to downgrade it to 34 which took me a long time to download but was not successful.

It booted back to 35 and now seems okay again. I had also thought it was an issue with Gnome and installed KDE and Mate but alas nothing was changing then.

Very polished operating system. Thank you for all your hard work. If you are not getting any notification, wait for a day or two after the release. It totally depends on mirrors and servers. Still, if the notification is not there, open the GNOME Software app and go to the Updates tab, and you should see a message saying that Fedora 35 is available something like below.

Choose Download to fetch the required packages and wait until it finishes. If you are comfortable with the command line, you can use the dnf upgrade command to perform the upgrade process. Next, install the dnf upgrade plugin by running the below command. This is required for the upgrade process.

Make sure your system is up-to-date by running the below command and install any necessary pending updates. Do it once again if you have done it via pre-upgrade steps. Initiate the download process by running the below command. This command will fetch all required packages and save them locally before the upgrade.

When you provide this, dnf will remove the packages that are blockers for your system upgrade. The above command displays what is going to be replaced, updated, upgraded, or downgraded. Something like below. Carefully glance through the list if you want to review the list. Or, you can just check the red-marked items and start the upgrade process. After data backup, you should also keep it in mind that upgrading the system takes time. So, before you start this operation, buy enough time to finish the upgrade process properly.

Needless to say, you should also have a stable internet connection to download all the update data. Lastly, I also want to mention that the new release may halt some of the functions that worked perfectly in your previous version.

So, I needed to re-install it manually. First, open the terminal and run the following command to update your system by getting the latest software packages for Fedora Once you finish downloading the new version, run the following command to restart your system and get into upgrade action:.

Upgrading the system will take time for me it took around 20 minutes , so you can now relax, take a walk, and let it finish. This method involves upgrading using the graphical Software Center.
